Epsom salts are a traditional remedy for all kinds of ailments, from joint pain to muscle aches. You can take the medical benefits with a grain of salt, but epsom soaks are an easy and inexpensive way to relax at home. This recipe adds olive oil to moisturize skin (since the salts can be drying) and essential oils for aromatherapy.
One note on essential oils: use them sparingly because they can be strong and, rarely, they can cause allergic reactions. Always check the label when using, or ask your doctor if you're unsure if essential oils or epsom salts are right for you. You can also leave out the essential oils in this recipe and just use the salts and olive oil for your bath.
What You'll Need
1 Cup of Epsom Salt
1 Tablespoon of Olive Oil
20 Drops of Lavender Essential Oil
20 Drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil
What You'll Do
Pour the epsom salt into a bowl or jar.
Mix in the tablespoon of olive oil.
Mix in 20 drops each of lavender and eucalyptus essential oil.
Pour the mixture into a hot bath while the water's running.
Soak for at least 20 minutes.
The essential oils balance cleansing eucalyptus with calming lavender, and the olive oil soothes skin to balance out the exfoliating effects of the epsom salt. Plus, it's so much cheaper than a spa day.
