Scent is one of the most powerful and often-overlooked senses, especially when it comes to sleep. Some research has shown that lavender may be effective at creating bedtime routines to help people get better rest. Making your own lavender linen spray is simple. You can also substitute other calming essential oils like chamomile, jasmine or rose into this recipe.
One note on essential oils: use them sparingly because they're very strong. Also use caution if you're pregnant or have young kids or pets, since they can have negative side effects. Always check the label when using, or ask your doctor if you're not sure whether they're safe.
What You'll Need
A Clean Glass or Plastic Spray Bottle
25 Drops of Lavender Essential Oil
1.5 Cups of Distilled Water
3 Ounces of Vodka
What You'll Do
Pour the distilled water and vodka into your spray bottle.
Add 25 drops of the essential oil.
Replace the cap on your spray bottle.
Shake to combine.
The vodka works as an emulsifier for the essential oil. Without it, the essential oil won't disperse well. The spray can last for many months (just shake it with each use) and basically goes bad whenever the smell has faded or turned. That's it. So simple!
